The Margarita is the definitive tequila sour: blanco tequila brightened by orange liqueur and balanced against fresh lime, traditionally served in a salt-rimmed glass. It descends from the brandy daisy ("margarita" is Spanish for daisy), recast with tequila sometime in the 1930s or '40s. Its true inventor remains famously disputed — credited variously to bartenders and socialites from Baja California to Ciudad Juarez to Galveston — but it first reached print in Esquire in December 1953.
