Originally created by Harry MacElhone in London around 1919 and later refined in Paris, the White Lady is a gin sour elevated by the orange fragrance and sweetness of triple sec. The combination produces a cocktail that is simultaneously crisp and soft, with the citrus liqueur smoothing the edges between gin's botanical bite and lemon's tartness. It occupies a distinct space between the austerity of a Martini and the fruitiness of a punch.
