Piña Colada

IBA

Puerto Rico's national drink, the Piña Colada was codified in the 1950s, with bartender Ramón 'Monchito' Marrero at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan most commonly credited with its creation. White rum provides a clean alcoholic backbone that lets the lush richness of coconut cream and the bright tropical acidity of pineapple take center stage. Despite its reputation for excess, a well-made Piña Colada is a study in the balance between fat, sweet, and fruit.
