The drink is a child of the American fern-bar boom of the 1980s, and its cheeky name has done more to spread it than anything in the recipe. The most repeated story credits a Florida bartender working the spring-break promotions of that decade, but nothing documents the claim, and the recipe was already turning up in print around the early 1980s. With no single inventor on record, it has nonetheless earned a place among the IBA's Contemporary Classics and gathered named variations such as the Woo Woo and the Sex in the Driveway.
