Blood and Sand

A rare scotch-based classic, the Blood and Sand balances smoky blended whisky against the dark sweetness of cherry liqueur, the richness of sweet vermouth, and a bright lift of orange juice — four parts in equal measure, shaken to a deep amber. It first appeared in Harry Craddock's 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book, named for Rudolph Valentino's 1922 bullfighting film, the cherry standing in for blood and the orange for sand.
