Brown Derby

A three-part Prohibition-era refresher of bourbon, fresh grapefruit juice, and honey, where the honey bridges the whiskey's caramel warmth and the citrus's tart, floral bite. It descends directly from the De Rigueur in Harry Craddock's 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book; the "Brown Derby" name, borrowed from the hat-shaped Los Angeles diner, was attached in Hollywood a few years later. Tart enough to wake the palate yet too gentle to jolt, it drinks light and bright for a whiskey sour.
