Madras

The Madras is a bright, easygoing highball — vodka lengthened with cranberry and orange juice in roughly equal measure, the orange softening cranberry's tartness into something sunny and sippable. It belongs to the mid-century American family that grew out of Ocean Spray's 1945 cranberry promotions, the same lineage as the Cape Codder and Sea Breeze. Its name comes from the vivid, layered Madras plaid fabric, which the drink's sunset-colored gradient echoes in the glass.
