A turn-of-the-century Scotch highball and one of the original "bucks," the Mamie Taylor pairs smoky-malty Scotch with the juice of half a lime and a long pour of crisp ginger ale over ice. Light, dry, and endlessly refreshing, it briefly outpaced the gin rickey in popularity before Prohibition. The drink is said to be named for the American singer Mamie Taylor, with the legend placing its 1899 birth at a lakeside resort near Rochester, New York.
