Income Tax

A Prohibition-era riff on the Bronx, the Income Tax keeps that drink's gin, split dry-and-sweet vermouth, and fresh orange juice but tightens the whole affair with a dash of Angostura. The bitters dry out the fruit and pull the herbal vermouths into focus, yielding a drink that smells sweet and fruity yet finishes crisp. First set down in Harry Craddock's 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book, its creator was never recorded — like the levy it's named for, it seems to have simply arrived.
