A gin cocktail with the structure of a Martinez tilted toward orange and citrus: London dry gin lengthened by sweet vermouth and Grand Marnier, brightened with a quarter ounce of lemon and an expressed lemon twist. Harry Craddock devised it at the Savoy's American Bar for the leap-year revelries of February 29, 1928, and recorded in his 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book that it was "responsible for more proposals than any other cocktail that has ever been mixed."
