A bone-dry tequila sour built on blanco tequila, fresh lime, a restrained pour of grenadine, and a generous lash of Angostura — closer to a tequila rickey than a margarita, its bitters and citrus snapping the grenadine's sweetness into balance. Cocktail historian Charles H. Baker recorded it in The Gentleman's Companion (1939) after stumbling onto it at the La Cucaracha Bar in Mexico City in 1937, a haunt run by American bartenders who'd carried their craft south during Prohibition.
