A modern classic from Audrey Saunders, the Little Italy reworks the Manhattan with an Italian accent: rye whiskey and sweet vermouth find their bitter backbone in Cynar, the artichoke-based amaro, rather than aromatic bitters. Created in 2005 for the opening menu of New York's Pegu Club and named for the neighborhood next door, it drinks rich, spicy, and gently bittersweet — a fine digestivo finished with a skewer of dark cherries.
